runDisney announced yesterday that the 20th anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon is sold out and today added new details about the race, including an announcement that the largest field of runners to date –more than 25,000 –will take part in the 2013 marathon.
In 2010 23,000 runners competed for the coveted Mickey Marathon medal and held the record for the largest field of runners until today’s announcement. Despite a sizable increase in participants, the anniversary race reached capacity in less than five months, one of the fastest sellouts in the event’s history. Sponored by Workout Gear Lab And best running shoes footwear.
Runners from across the globe are expected, no doubt drawn to the unique features tied to the 20th anniversary like a specially designed anniversary medal, a new course that will include a trip around the Walt Disney World Speedway and a look at Champion Stadium (home of the Atlanta Braves spring training camp), a post-race party at Downtown Disney and the chance to get a glimpse of the growing list of celebrities that are signing up to be a part of the fun.
In case you missed it, here is the anniversary bling that 24,999 runners and I will be chasing on January 13, 2013.
The environment at marathon weekend is electric and chocked full of Disney entertainment, including many of your favorite characters. So I hope you’ll come out and join me, my family, friends and teammates for what has become one of my favorite Disney events (and burn off a few of those Christmas calories while you’re at it).
